Innovative Preaching Series / Sermon Search

This last year we began to notice a few changes in the churches we work with around the country.

For almost two decades we’ve been coaching churches on how to start, sustain and strengthen their small group ministry buy producing video-based curriculum and campaigns based on their upcoming sermon series. But more and more pastors were wanting to use a sermon series and campaign that we previously produced for another church. So we began producing semi-custom campaigns using existing sermon series and even selling the campaigns of many of the churches we have worked with over the years…..similar to 40 Days of Purpose. In fact, we produced 40 Days of Grace, 40 Days of Worship and 40 Days of Missions that are just rolling out.

But it made us curious and we started asking a whole new set of questions…and the results were fascinating!

In the process, we began asking a series of new questions of Senior Pastors and their teams. What we discovered in the process is that pastors–no matter how large their church–are challenged to come up with brilliant and breakthrough sermon series every weekend, every season, for the entire year. And any help coming up with fresh ideas, new approaches, proven models for what, where, when and how to preach an upcoming sermon series could be a big help in their weekend service and sermon planning process.

As a result, we launched a major research project where we assessed the sermon series in hundreds of the largest and fastest growing churches in our network around the country. What we discovered were some key patterns that each of these churches displayed in their preaching calendars, creative titles, message topics, sermon outlines, and most importantly, we discovered some of the strategies that helped inform not only their upcoming weekend services but literally the direction of the church. That’s when we knew this project was far bigger than a “sermon planning” process but a “church transforming” process.

So Here is Where the Breakthrough Began

We launched a major initiative to aggregate what is soon to be thousands of amazing, original and field-tested sermon series in the most innovative, creative and progressive churches in the country. While this data is not scientific, the aggregation of all of these sermons provide just another tool for senior pastors to serve their congregations. But that was just the beginning.

What we found was a clear pattern of 20-30 categories of sermons and sermon series that most of these pastors in growing churches will preach on over a 12-24 month period.
